Background

What would you say is the #1 priority of most people?

- Perhaps they say their family is most important.
- Perhaps they say their job is most important to them.
- Perhaps they say money is their #1 priority.
- Some may say food, water, and shelter.
- Others may state that sleep is most important.

What's your #1 priority? What is your greatest commitment in your life where you make an authentic and valid contribution?

If you said that health is your #1 priority, do you know why?
If your health isn't your #1 priority, why do you feel that way?

Here's an individual response to each example of #1 priorities noted above:

Perhaps they say their family is most important.

With neglected or poor health, and/or dangerous or risky behaviors and activities, a person's contribution towards their loved ones may not last as long it could without a solid foundation of opitimal health, the very thing that affects human performance.

Perhaps they say their job is most important to them.

With neglected or poor health, and/or dangerous or risky behaviors and activities, a person's contribution towards their job, productivity, or career may be short-lived. Tardiness and taking sick days may lead to warnings or even being let go for a lack of commitment, availability, and optimal productivity.

Perhaps they say money is their #1 priority.

With neglected or poor health, and/or dangerous or risky behaviors and activities, a person's contribution towards their income, or management and usage of money, may be short changed due to a sudden illness, progressive bout with disease, or their ultimate and outrageous healthcare costs.

Some may say food, water, and shelter.

With neglected or poor health, and/or dangerous or risky behaviors and activities, a person's contribution towards obtaining and enjoying the basic necessities of life may be all that's left after an unfortunate illness or injury. Sometimes, without proper arrangements, insurance, and financial planning, some of these necessities can run out.

Others may state that sleep is most important.

With neglected or poor health, and/or dangerous or risky behaviors and activities, a person's contribution towards getting enough rest may lead to oversleeping, insomnia, or fatigue. While rest is an important factor of optimal health, one who values sleep as their #1 priority may suffer from depression, anxiety disorders, overload, stress, or lack of ambition.
